☀️ The Scoop on Hudson Weather
This weekend is shaping up to be a postcard-perfect stretch — sunshine, mild temps, and just enough breeze to keep things feeling fresh. But don’t get too cozy...a soggier shift is rolling in by Tuesday.
It’s a good time to knock out those yard projects, brunch outside, or finally plant the flowers you keep forgetting to buy.
- 🌤 Friday, May 9 – High 59° / Low 39°
Partly cloudy and cooler. (Might want that light jacket after sunset.) - ☀️ Saturday, May 10 – High 70° / Low 48°
Bright and beautiful. (Ideal weather for garden strolls and ice cream.) - ☀️ Sunday, May 11 – High 77° / Low 51°
Sunny and warm. (Mother’s Day forecast = chef’s kiss.) - 🌤 Monday, May 12 – High 80° / Low 59°
Partly cloudy but summery. (The kind of Monday that makes patios tempting.) - 🌧️ Tuesday, May 13 – High 71° / Low 59°
Showers likely. (Keep the umbrella close, just in case.) - ⛈️ Wednesday, May 14 – High 76° / Low 64°
Scattered thunderstorms. (Good day for indoor plans or ducking into the library.)
Soak up the sunshine while it’s here — and if you’re hosting brunch, you definitely scored a golden weekend. 🌸☀️

📰 Fresh Off the Clocktower
💐 Here’s to the Moms (and All That Coffee)
Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and before we dive into events and brunch plans (that’s coming later in the Scoop To Do section), we wanted to hit pause and appreciate the real MVPs of family life — moms.
The day became official in 1914 thanks to Anna Jarvis, who wanted to honor her mother’s legacy of community service and compassion. More than a century later, we’re still celebrating the women who hold it all together — with grace, grit, and a very strong caffeine routine.
Here are a few fun and fascinating mom facts to share with your family:
- 💤 Moms lose a LOT of sleep. New moms miss out on about 40 minutes of sleep per night in the first year — that adds up to 10 full days. And even after the baby years? Mothers still average 1–2 fewer hours of sleep each night than women without kids.
- 🌎 Mother’s Day is a global celebration. It’s observed in more than 40 countries, from Ethiopia to Thailand, with different dates and traditions.
- 📞 It’s the busiest phone day of the year. Around 122 million calls are made on Mother’s Day — so if Mom doesn’t pick up right away, you’re not the only one trying.
- 💸 Americans spend big. Last year, U.S. shoppers spent more than $35 billion on Mother’s Day — gifts, cards, flowers, meals, you name it.
- ❤️ The average mom does the equivalent of two full-time jobs. According to a study, moms clock around 98 hours a week on everything from caretaking and cooking to chauffeuring and crisis management. (Basically: she's unstoppable.)
We have a full list of ways to celebrate in and around Hudson coming up — but for now, maybe shoot your mom a text just to say thanks. She’s probably awake. 😅
✈️ Heads-Up, Travelers: Real ID Is Now Required for Flights
If you’ve got summer travel plans, here’s a crucial update: as of May 7, 2025, you’ll need a Real ID (or a passport) to board any domestic flight in the U.S.
What’s a Real ID? It’s that fancy driver’s license with the little star in the corner — and no, your regular license won’t cut it anymore. This change is now officially in effect at all TSA checkpoints.
Don’t have one yet? You’ll need to visit the BMV in person with documents that prove your identity, U.S. residency, and legal presence. It’s a bit of paperwork, but it’s a one-time hassle that’ll save you serious airport stress later.
Still traveling soon without one? You can use a passport, military ID, or other TSA-approved documents — just be ready for extra screening and plan to arrive early.
For more details, check your state’s BMV or visit tsa.gov/real-id. Safe travels, Hudson! ✈️🧳
📝 May 6 Council Notes: Big Wins & Big Thanks
This week’s Council meeting came with a few big thank-yous, a major funding win, and some good old-fashioned Hudson progress.
🎉 Recognition of Senator Roegner
Council opened the evening with a heartfelt proclamation honoring Senator Roegner for helping bring $680,000 to Hudson’s future Inclusive Playground and over $15 million for the Hines Hill Road Bridge project. That’s the largest grant package Hudson has ever received — by a lot. Council, staff, and residents all shared how transformational this support will be for our neighborhoods, safety, and access. Roegner, who started her public service journey right here in Hudson, called it a full-circle moment and said this was one of the most meaningful parts of her final term representing our district.
🚲 May is Bike Month in Hudson
A new proclamation made it official: the city is recognizing May as Bike Month, including National Ride a Bike Day (May 4) and Bike to Work Week (May 12–18). One member of the Environmental Awareness Committee stepped up to accept the proclamation and gave a well-earned shoutout to the city’s biking infrastructure, local safety teams, and even the street sweeper for keeping bike lanes clean. Hudson’s working hard to make biking safer and more accessible — and folks are noticing.
👩💼 Public Service Shoutout
Council also recognized Public Service Recognition Week (May 4–10) — and the gratitude ran deep. Council members and staff shared stories about the dedication of Hudson’s city employees, from answering calls on weekends to getting repairs done within hours. One resident even called in mid-meeting just to say thanks. It was a feel-good moment and a solid reminder that the people behind the scenes are keeping the city running smoothly.
🧾 What Passed on the Consent Agenda
- Funding for new police and public works vehicles
- Approval for drainage work in Towbridge
- Upgrades to the city’s security and intercom systems
- Continued support for a local business reinvestment project
📜 Legislative Notes
- One ordinance about hearing procedures was postponed to May 20 to finalize edits
- Townhomes are now limited to the Village Core district
- A property on Stow Road received its agricultural land use designation
- Council reviewed the latest updates to Hudson’s tax incentive programs
🕰️ Clocktower Update
Yes, it’s fixed! After some delay (understandable since the repair crew came in from Pennsylvania!), the gears are back in working order. The Clocktower is ticking again — just in time for summer strolls through town.
That’s your Council recap — full of big gratitude, bold plans, and a few million-dollar wins for Hudson. From bike trails to bridge projects, it’s clear the wheels are turning (sometimes literally).
We’ll keep an eye on what’s next and bring you the updates — minus the jargon, plus a bit of charm.
Onward, Hudson.

🏅 Hudson Sports Recap: Big Wins, Senior Shoutouts & Momentum Building
It’s been a packed week for Explorer athletics—and Hudson showed up strong.
🥇 Girls' Track and Field
On Senior Day, the girls' varsity track team capped off the celebration with a 74–63 win over Aurora. The seniors went out in style, with standout performances by Ellie Miele in the 100m and 200m dashes, Katie Will dominating distance events, and Alyssa Maniar flying in the long jump. Hudson also swept both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. It was a full-team effort that made the seniors’ last home meet one to remember.
⚾ Boys' Baseball
Tough one for the boys on the diamond—they fell 10–0 to a hot Norton team that’s now on a nine-game win streak. But there’s a chance to bounce back: Hudson hosts Brunswick tonight at 7:00 PM.
🥎 Girls' Softball
Hudson snapped their five-game home skid with a 7–1 win over Stow-Munroe Falls. Claire Eland was dominant on the mound, going the full seven with eight strikeouts. Shawna Baylor had a huge day at the plate with a homer and three RBIs, and Eva Masiella added a stolen base and a double.
Then on Wednesday, they rolled over Firestone in a 12–0 shutout. Claire Eland was back at it with another lights-out pitching performance, while Shawna Baylor and Corinne Stearns each hit home runs. Gianna Pirtle also racked up three RBIs. That’s two straight wins for a team heating up at the right time.
🥍 Boys' Lacrosse
Two games. Two statement wins. Hudson crushed Solon on Tuesday, then turned around and did it again to St. Edward on Wednesday—both by double digits. The team is firing on all cylinders heading into tonight's (Friday) matchup at Mt. Lebanon. Good luck, boys—we’ll be cheering you on from home! 💪
More scores coming soon as spring season kicks into full gear!
#RollHUD!
🏀 Cavs Drop Game 2 — On to Indiana for Game 3
It was a heartbreaker at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Tuesday night. Despite Donovan Mitchell dropping an unreal 48 points, the Cavs came up just short against the Pacers in Game 2, losing 120–119 after a 3-point buzzer-beater from Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton.
That leaves Cleveland down 0–2 in the series — not ideal, but the energy’s still high. Mitchell's performance was electric, and with some key injuries still looming, the bench is stepping up big.
Game 3 is tonight (Friday) at 7:30 PM in Indiana. Time to dig deep and bounce back. Let’s go Cavs! 🔥
