š Holiday Lighting: Keeping Hudson Glowing Since 1948
The magic of downtown Hudson in December? Thatās HCSA and a legacy that began with Mary Lou Morse and her family just after WWII. Back then, the trees were small, the lights were simple, and the joy was huge.
Over the decades, the program has grown into a beloved partnership between HCSA and Hudson Public Power. HCSA provides the materialsālights, bows, wreaths, and even the Clocktower Mouseāwhile the city donates time, labor, and electricity.
In 2021, thanks to generous donations, HCSA upgraded the lights in the Gazebo. And every year, the sparkle continues thanks to local residents, businesses, and foundations who help keep the tradition alive.

šļø Council Recap: Hudson Talks Safety, Sidewalks & an Inclusive Future
The May 13 Hudson City Council workshop tackled everything from pedestrian safety to playground plansāwith spirited debate, lots of progress, and a few passionate community voices in the mix.
šø West Streetsboro Street Safety Improvements
Council reviewed an ODOT-funded plan to improve safety along SR 303 between Boston Mills Road and Adterbury Boulevard. Instead of installing physical medians and bump-outs, the city will move forward with a painted layout to simplify traffic flow and reduce accidentsāsaving time, cost, and headaches. Some council members expressed concern about āpinch points,ā but most agreed this low-commitment approach is worth trying.
šļø Inclusive Playground Decision Nears
After federal funds fell through for the Middleton Road site, Barlow Farm Park has emerged as the top contender for Hudsonās inclusive playground. The Park Board, city staff, and the Hudson Inclusive Playground (HIP) group all favor Barlow, citing accessibility, proximity to existing activities like Soccer for All, and available funding. Oak Grove Park was floated as a last-minute option, but concerns about cost, timing, and nearby haunted house vibes gave some council members pause. A final decision is expected in the next two weeks.
š¶ Sidewalks & Spending
A proposed sidewalk project on Ravenna Street sparked debate about priorities. While some suggested pausing lower-priority infrastructure due to budget concerns, others pushed back, saying this connection has been in the works for years and directly improves pedestrian safety. No final decisions were made, but itās clear that future infrastructure planning will be under extra scrutiny.
š Local Wins & Recognition
- š Council congratulated three Hudson Middle School studentsāColt, Tyler, and Sophieāfor breaking school track and field records.
- šļø Special shoutouts went to Cub Scout Pack 3322 and Brian from Boy Scout Troop 321 for crossing big milestones.
- š¶ Planning Commission will hold a special meeting in two weeks to finish reviewing the proposed dog park and kennel on Prospect.
š§© Whatās Next
- šļø Park Board will revisit playground site options on Monday (May 20)
- š³ļø Council plans to finalize the playground location at the May 27 workshop
- š A possible sidewalk prioritization review may be added to upcoming meetings
From sidewalks to swing sets, the future of Hudson is getting mapped outāone thoughtful conversation at a time. Onward, Hudson.
š¶ A Standing Ovation for Mrs. Le!
Big applause for Hong Le, beloved music teacher at Ellsworth Hill, who just struck a major chordāshe's been named one of only 30 educators nationwide to receive the Country Music Association's Music Teacher of Excellence Award! š
Each year, this honor is given to teachers who go above and beyond to bring meaningful, high-quality music education to their classrooms and communitiesāand Hudson's own Mrs. Le is hitting all the right notes.
As part of the award, she'll receive $5,000, with half going toward her classroom and half for personal use. And come September, sheāll be trading the school stage for a red carpet at a celebration in Nashville alongside other standout educators.
Congrats, Mrs. Leāyou make Hudson proud! š§”š¼š
