ā˜€ļø The Scoop on Hudson Weather

The weather this weekend is tossing us a little bit of everything: warm sunshine, breezy gusts, and the kind of cloud cover that whispers, ā€œMaybe don’t commit to outdoor brunch just yet.ā€ Keep your layers close and your plans flexible.

  • 🌤 Today (Friday), May 16 – High: 82° / Low: 62°
Partly cloudy and feeling like early summer. (Might be a great evening for a patio dinner—just saying.)

  • 🌄 Saturday, May 17 – High: 67° / Low: 52°
Still partly cloudy, but breezier with winds up to 18 mph. (Your hair might not thank you, but your lawn will.)

  • ā˜ļø Sunday, May 18 – High: 63° / Low: 47°
Cloudy and cool with a chance of ā€œlet’s stay in.ā€ (Perfect for a second cup of coffee and an afternoon movie.)

  • 🌤 Monday, May 19 – High: 60° / Low: 44°
A bright start to the week. Chilly but cheery. (That spring jacket you forgot about? Time to reunite.)

  • 🌄 Tuesday, May 20 – High: 62° / Low: 51°
Mostly cloudy and mellow. (Good for errands, not great for tanning.)

  • 🌧 Wednesday, May 21 – High: 64° / Low: 50°
Showers return. (If your garden could high-five you, it would.)

Expect some back-and-forth in the skies this week, but hey—at least we’re not shoveling it!

šŸ“° Fresh Off the Clocktower

šŸ¤ Join the Heart of Hudson — Support HCSA

If you’ve ever driven past a glowing holiday display downtown, known someone who got help when they needed it most, or felt grateful for a neighbor's kindness… chances are, the Hudson Community Service Association (HCSA) was behind it.

This all-volunteer group keeps Hudson connected and cared for with three cornerstone programs:

  • 🄫 Food Pantry
  • 🧤 Helping Hands
  • šŸŽ„ Holiday Lighting

🄫 Food Pantry: Fighting Hunger with Dignity

Located at Rejoice Lutheran Church (7855 Stow Rd, Hudson), the Food Pantry provides emergency food for neighbors facing tough times. As a partner of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, they serve with compassion—no judgment, just support. They also respond to emergencies like job loss, sudden medical issues, or financial hardship.

Upcoming Food Distribution Dates: 12-2pm
May 31, June 28, July 26, August 23, September 27, October 25, November 15, December 13

Emergency contact: 234-380-7402 or [email protected]

What to bring:
- State ID
- A piece of mail with your current address

No pre-registration needed. Just stop by, check in with a friendly volunteer, and choose what your family can use.

🧤 Helping Hands: Because Life Happens

Helping Hands supports Hudson neighbors when life throws a curveball. From utility bills to gas money to clothing and rent support—they’ve got your back.

They assist with:

  • Rent
  • Gasoline
  • Utility payments
  • Clothing
  • HCER fees
  • Referrals for SNAP, HEAP, PIPP

If you're in need, call 330-671-9457 and leave your name, address, phone number, and a short message about your need. A volunteer will return your call within 24–48 hours.

šŸŽ„ Holiday Lighting: Keeping Hudson Glowing Since 1948

The magic of downtown Hudson in December? That’s HCSA and a legacy that began with Mary Lou Morse and her family just after WWII. Back then, the trees were small, the lights were simple, and the joy was huge.

Over the decades, the program has grown into a beloved partnership between HCSA and Hudson Public Power. HCSA provides the materials—lights, bows, wreaths, and even the Clocktower Mouse—while the city donates time, labor, and electricity.

In 2021, thanks to generous donations, HCSA upgraded the lights in the Gazebo. And every year, the sparkle continues thanks to local residents, businesses, and foundations who help keep the tradition alive.

Every little bit helps—and together, we can keep Hudson kind, bright, and full of heart.

šŸ›ļø Council Recap: Hudson Talks Safety, Sidewalks & an Inclusive Future

The May 13 Hudson City Council workshop tackled everything from pedestrian safety to playground plans—with spirited debate, lots of progress, and a few passionate community voices in the mix.

🚸 West Streetsboro Street Safety Improvements

Council reviewed an ODOT-funded plan to improve safety along SR 303 between Boston Mills Road and Adterbury Boulevard. Instead of installing physical medians and bump-outs, the city will move forward with a painted layout to simplify traffic flow and reduce accidents—saving time, cost, and headaches. Some council members expressed concern about ā€œpinch points,ā€ but most agreed this low-commitment approach is worth trying.

šŸžļø Inclusive Playground Decision Nears

After federal funds fell through for the Middleton Road site, Barlow Farm Park has emerged as the top contender for Hudson’s inclusive playground. The Park Board, city staff, and the Hudson Inclusive Playground (HIP) group all favor Barlow, citing accessibility, proximity to existing activities like Soccer for All, and available funding. Oak Grove Park was floated as a last-minute option, but concerns about cost, timing, and nearby haunted house vibes gave some council members pause. A final decision is expected in the next two weeks.

🚶 Sidewalks & Spending

A proposed sidewalk project on Ravenna Street sparked debate about priorities. While some suggested pausing lower-priority infrastructure due to budget concerns, others pushed back, saying this connection has been in the works for years and directly improves pedestrian safety. No final decisions were made, but it’s clear that future infrastructure planning will be under extra scrutiny.

šŸ† Local Wins & Recognition

  • šŸŽ‰ Council congratulated three Hudson Middle School students—Colt, Tyler, and Sophie—for breaking school track and field records.
  • šŸŽ–ļø Special shoutouts went to Cub Scout Pack 3322 and Brian from Boy Scout Troop 321 for crossing big milestones.
  • 🐶 Planning Commission will hold a special meeting in two weeks to finish reviewing the proposed dog park and kennel on Prospect.

🧩 What’s Next

  • šŸ—“ļø Park Board will revisit playground site options on Monday (May 20)
  • šŸ—³ļø Council plans to finalize the playground location at the May 27 workshop
  • šŸ” A possible sidewalk prioritization review may be added to upcoming meetings

From sidewalks to swing sets, the future of Hudson is getting mapped out—one thoughtful conversation at a time. Onward, Hudson.

šŸŽ¶ A Standing Ovation for Mrs. Le!

Big applause for Hong Le, beloved music teacher at Ellsworth Hill, who just struck a major chord—she's been named one of only 30 educators nationwide to receive the Country Music Association's Music Teacher of Excellence Award! šŸŽ‰

Each year, this honor is given to teachers who go above and beyond to bring meaningful, high-quality music education to their classrooms and communities—and Hudson's own Mrs. Le is hitting all the right notes.

As part of the award, she'll receive $5,000, with half going toward her classroom and half for personal use. And come September, she’ll be trading the school stage for a red carpet at a celebration in Nashville alongside other standout educators.

Congrats, Mrs. Le—you make Hudson proud! šŸ§”šŸŽ¼šŸŒŸ
