ā˜€ļø The Scoop on Hudson Weather

Hope you didn’t pack away those light jackets just yet—this week’s forecast is leaning cooler, with a few rain-soaked pit stops along the way. We're trading summer teasers for classic late-spring mood swings.

That said, the weekend's looking a little brighter. Here’s the full scoop:

  • ā›… Monday, May 19 – 61°/41°
Partly cloudy and cool. (Good hoodie weather if you ask us.)
  • ā˜ļø Tuesday, May 20 – 65°/50°
Overcast skies all day. (Your sunglasses get the day off.)
  • šŸŒ§ļø Wednesday, May 21 – 58°/48°
Showers roll in. (Might want to waterproof those Wednesday plans.)
  • šŸŒ§ļø Thursday, May 22 – 52°/45°
More rain, more layers. (Perfect excuse to stay in and order pizza.)
  • šŸŒ§ļø Friday, May 23 – 53°/46°
Light showers still hanging around. (We’ll allow grumbling.)
  • ā›… Saturday, May 24 – 61°/45°
Finally drying out. (Not quite shorts weather, but we’ll take it.)
  • ā›… Sunday, May 25 – 65°/48°
A pleasant finish to the week. (Your patio just texted: ā€œReady when you are.ā€)

Moral of the story? Keep the umbrella in one hand and your weekend hopes in the other. Hudson spring is doing its thing.

šŸ“° Fresh Off the Clocktower

🐶 National Rescue Dog Day Is May 20 — Let’s Hear It for the Good Boys and Girls

This Tuesday, we’re celebrating the scruffy, slobbery, sweet-faced MVPs of the animal kingdom: rescue dogs.

National Rescue Dog Day honors pups who’ve found their forever homes—and the people who gave them a second chance (and probably a spot on the couch).

Want to get involved? Here’s how to spread the love:

  • šŸ  Visit a local shelter like Humane Society of Summit County or Rescue Village and say hello to the adoptable VIPs.
  • šŸ“± Share your own rescue story on social media and tag it with #NationalRescueDogDay.
  • šŸŽ Drop off treats, towels, or toys to your local shelter—practical magic in dog form.
  • šŸ– Or just tell your dog they’re a very good boy/girl. Again. Loudly. With snacks.

And hey—Hudson’s rescue pups deserve the spotlight!

šŸ“ø Send a photo to [email protected] and we’ll feature some of Hudson’s happiest hounds in an upcoming issue. Bonus points for tongue-out smiles and ears that defy gravity. Because let's be honest-this town has great dogs!

šŸŽ Hudson High Dazzles at Playhouse Square

Let’s give a standing ovation for Hudson High School’s incredible showing at the 2025 Dazzle Awards! The annual ceremony at Playhouse Square rolled out the red carpet for the best in Northeast Ohio high school musical theater—and Hudson didn’t just show up, they owned the night.

Their production of Hadestown: Teen Edition was a total knockout, taking home major honors, including:

  • Best Musical (Tier 2)
  • Best Actress: Mira Cahalane for her powerhouse performance as Hermes
  • Best Scenic Design (tied with Saint Ignatius High School’s Shrek The Musical)
  • Best Choreography Execution
  • Best Technical Execution
  • Best Ensemble/Chorus

And here’s the extra amazing part: Mira Cahalane will be heading to New York City this summer to represent Northeast Ohio at the national Jimmy Awards—aka the Super Bowl of high school musical theater.

This is a huge moment for the Hudson theater community, and we couldn’t be prouder of the entire cast, crew, and creative team. Let’s hear it for the drama kids—you make Hudson shine! šŸ‘šŸ’«

🚦 Smarter Traffic Lights Are Almost Here

Big changes are coming to Hudson’s intersections—and we’re not just talking about new bulbs. The City’s Adaptive Signals Project is nearly complete, and once it’s activated in early June, your commute might actually feel... smoother?

Here’s the scoop: adaptive signals are like regular traffic lights—but with brains. Instead of cycling through pre-set timers, they use sensors and real-time data to adjust based on what’s actually happening on the roads. More cars on Main Street? It adapts. Bumper-to-bumper near the high school? It adapts. Fewer cars at night? It adapts.

You’ll probably notice a few changes right away, like the removal of nighttime flashing lights—because these new signals are smart enough to manage traffic around the clock without defaulting to blink mode.

Why this matters:

  • ā±ļø Less time waiting at red lights
  • šŸš— Smoother, more consistent traffic flow
  • 🌱 Fewer emissions thanks to less idling
  • šŸ›‘ Safer responses to unexpected traffic surges

Right now, crews are finishing the fiber connections that will link the new system to Hudson’s network. After it goes live, it’ll run through a 10-day performance test to fine-tune the timing.

Bottom line? Fewer frustrating intersections. More green lights that actually make sense. We’ll take it!

šŸ† Roll Hud Recap

šŸƒā€ā™€ļø Ashton Swinford Wins Cleveland Marathon (Again!)

Hudson, give it up for your hometown hero: Ashton Swinford just won the women’s division of the Cleveland Marathon for the fourth year in a row! She crushed the 26.2-mile course with a time of 2:51:16, finishing over five minutes ahead of the competition.

If you’re wondering how she pulls it off year after year—well, Ashton’s basically a real-life superhero. She’s a former competitive gymnast, a physical therapist, a mother of twins (yes, twins!), and the captain of CLE Racing, a powerhouse group of elite women runners in Northeast Ohio.

Her story is all grit, heart, and miles—and she’s not just racing, she’s leading. Congratulations, Ashton! Hudson’s cheering for you every step of the way. šŸ…šŸ’™

šŸ„ Girls Lacrosse Storms Into Playoffs Undefeated

The Hudson girls lacrosse team is on a mission—and so far, it’s been flawless. After wrapping up the regular season with a perfect 18–0 record, the Explorers wasted no time making a statement in the postseason, crushing Riverside 14–2 in their first playoff matchup.

Next up? A regional semifinal showdown when they'll host St. Joseph Academy this Wednesday, May 21 at 7:00 PM. With a spot in the state semifinals on the line, the stakes (and the energy) couldn’t be higher.

Let’s fill those stands and cheer them on as they chase history. This team has been unstoppable all season—now they’re just four wins away from the state title.

Bring the noise! šŸ„šŸ’™

šŸŽ¾ Explorers Fall Just Short in OTCA Semifinals

The Hudson Boys' Tennis team put up a fierce fight in the OTCA Division I Northeast Ohio Tournament semifinals, but came up just short against Westlake in a tight 3–2 match on Friday.

After a thrilling win over Jackson in the quarterfinals, the Explorers brought grit and hustle to the semis—but Westlake edged them out in the final tally. Still, making it this far is no small feat, and the team showed exactly why they belong in the conversation with the best in the region.

Huge congratulations to our players and coaches for a season full of determination, sportsmanship, and standout moments. You made Hudson proud.
