☀️ The Scoop on Hudson Weather
Hudson’s wrapping up May with a little bit of everything — clouds, showers, sunshine, and the occasional “wait, is it jacket weather or not?” vibe. Pack a little patience (and maybe a light raincoat) because the skies are definitely keeping us on our toes this week.
- 🌤 Today (Monday, May 26): 68°/51°, partly cloudy
A cool breeze from the north and a few friendly clouds drifting by — perfect for attending the Memorial Day parade followed by a backyard hang. - 🌧 Tuesday (May 27): 70°/53°, afternoon showers
Expect some sprinkles later in the day, so maybe move that evening bike ride earlier. Or embrace the drizzle — we’re not judging. - 🌦 Wednesday (May 28): 66°/56°, rain all day
Break out the umbrella (and maybe the good waterproof shoes) because this one’s looking soggy. Coffee shop day, anyone? - ☁️ Thursday (May 29): 66°/54°, mostly cloudy
A little gloom in the skies, but hey, at least it’s dry! Think of it as soft lighting for your outdoor selfies. - 🌤 Friday (May 30): 72°/54°, partly cloudy
Warmer and drier — just in time to start the weekend with a little sunshine peeking through. - ☀️ Saturday (May 31): 68°/51°, mostly sunny
A crisp and cheerful day ahead. Hit the farmers market, stroll downtown, or just soak up the good vibes. - 🌤 Sunday (June 1): 72°/52°, partly cloudy
Wrapping up the week on a warm and breezy note. Ideal for a patio brunch or a lazy afternoon in the yard.
In short: keep the layers handy, the umbrella close, and the sunglasses on standby. Hudson weather loves to mix things up!

📰 Fresh Off the Clocktower
🌟🌺 Memorial Day: Honoring the Brave Today
Today, Hudson takes a pause. Memorial Day isn’t just the unofficial start of summer — it’s a day to honor and remember the men and women who gave their lives in military service.
A little history for your day: Memorial Day began after the Civil War, originally called Decoration Day, when communities came together to lay flowers and flags on soldiers’ graves. One of the earliest events happened in 1865 when formerly enslaved people in Charleston, South Carolina, gathered to honor Union soldiers who never made it home. It became a federal holiday in 1971, landing on the last Monday of May.
At 3:00 p.m. today, join the National Moment of Remembrance — just one minute to stop, reflect, and honor the fallen.
- The red poppy became a symbol of remembrance thanks to the World War I poem In Flanders Fields.
- Memorial Day through Labor Day is known as America’s “hot dog season” — around 7 billion are expected to be eaten this summer. That's about 818 hot dogs a second (we did the math so that you didn't have to!)
- Memorial Day specifically honors those who died in service, while Veterans Day recognizes all who have served.
As you enjoy the sunshine, the parade, or the extra-long weekend, take a moment to remember why this day matters. Honor those we’ve lost, celebrate the freedoms they fought for, and keep the spirit of gratitude close.
Wishing you a meaningful Memorial Day, Hudson. 💙

🎉 Ellsworth Hill Elementary Named #1 in Ohio for Heart Health!
We’ve got some hometown pride to shout about! The American Heart Association just named Ellsworth Hill Elementary the top school in Ohio for their incredible work with the Kids Heart Challenge™ — beating out nearly 600 schools statewide. And honestly? We’re not surprised one bit.
If you’ve ever had a kid go through Ellsworth’s PE program, you know it’s more than just dodgeball and jumping jacks. Under the energetic leadership of Mr. Mike Payne, PE at Ellsworth is about building healthy habits, connecting movement to mental well-being, and creating a space where every kid feels confident and included.
💓 What’s the Kids Heart Challenge?
It’s a nationwide program that helps kids, families, and schools focus on heart health, activity, and community support.
This year alone, Ellsworth’s students raised a jaw-dropping $33,000 for the American Heart Association’s lifesaving research and outreach work. That’s not just impressive — it’s inspiring.
🌟 Why It Matters
Only about 20% of kids get enough daily physical activity. Programs like this help kids:
- Boost self-esteem
- Reduce anxiety and depression
- Improve grades and classroom focus
- Build lifelong health habits
When a school prioritizes health in such a meaningful way, the whole community feels the benefits.
👏 Huge Congratulations, Ellsworth Hill!
This award is about more than fundraising — it’s a celebration of a school culture built on care, activity, and heart. Thank you to the amazing staff, students, and families who made this happen. Hudson is proud of you! 💙✨

📚 A Night of WWII Art Intrigue at the Hudson Library
Here’s your midweek plan: Wednesday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m., swing by the Hudson Library & Historical Society for a fascinating evening with award-winning journalist and author Michelle Young, who’s coming to share stories from her gripping new book, The Art Spy.
This isn’t just another war story — it’s the extraordinary, real-life tale of Rose Valland, a woman who secretly worked inside Paris’s Jea de Paume Museum during WWII, slipping critical intel to the Resistance and saving priceless art from Nazi hands. Think: Monuments Men, but with even more guts and style. Publishers Weekly called the book a “thrilling saga,” and we’re already hooked just reading the description.
Michelle Young’s credentials? She’s written for Hyperallergic, The Forward, and The Wilson Quarterly, founded Untapped New York, graduated from Harvard, and teaches at Columbia. Basically, she’s a powerhouse.
📖 Bonus: Copies of The Art Spy will be available for purchase and signing, thanks to The Learned Owl Book Shop.
Registration is required, so grab your spot here.
If you’re a history buff, art lover, or just someone who enjoys a great true story, this one’s for you. We’ll see you there!
👣 Step Back in Time: Hudson the Early Years Walking Tour
Ready for a little local adventure? On Thursday, May 29 at 6 p.m., the Hudson Library & Historical Society is hosting the Hudson the Early Years Walking Tour — a guided stroll through the town’s first fifty years.
You’ll hear stories of the brave pioneer families (like the Oviatts and Brewsters), the founding of Western Reserve College, and the boom times that transformed Hudson from “howling wilderness” to bustling railroad hub. It’s local history, but with fresh air and fun!
Tours meet at the library entrance, and they’re weather dependent — so make sure to wear comfy shoes and dress for whatever Ohio decides to throw at us that day (forecast suggests it will at least be dry!).
👟 Register for your spot here.
Come walk the paths where Hudson’s earliest stories were made!
