📝 Hudson Council Recap: Fire Upgrades, Fiber Plans & Future Moves
Here’s your lively wrap-up from the May 27 Hudson City Council Workshop! Trust us, it was a packed evening with everything from fire department funding plans to parade safety talks — plus a little local drama thrown in for good measure.
🛑 Fire & EMS Updates
The council tackled the big shift to a hybrid fire department model, aiming to improve response times without raising taxes (at least for now). They’re planning to tap into existing funds and revisit long-term funding over the next few years. Bottom line? We’ll see more daytime and eventually 24-hour fire coverage, with July as the target for rolling things out. Big thanks to Chief and the team for pushing this forward! 🚒🔥
💬 Council Comments
- Congrats rolled in for Hudson’s Science Olympiad team — they snagged 8th place nationally! 🏅 Nerdy and proud.
- A somber note: condolences were extended to the Green community after a tragic Memorial Day parade accident.
- Leadership Hudson is eyeing Veterans Way as the potential site for their Hudson sign. Expect more updates as this makes its way back to council.
💸 Money Talk
There were some firm nudges (looking at you, Councilor Sutton) about locking down a clear, permanent funding strategy for fire & EMS. Council largely agreed — the community deserves to know exactly how services will be supported, long-term.
🏘️ Downtown Development
Staff presented updated financial break-even points for the Owen Brown project: roughly $48M north and $15M south. Next up? An RFP to bring in the experts. Oh, and they confirmed that any green space would truly be public, not just for future homeowners. 🌳🏡
🚫 Short-Term Rentals & Parking
No big shakeups for Hudson’s short-term rental program — it’s running smoothly. But those pesky landscape trailers clogging roads? A set of ordinances is moving forward to manage where and when they can park, with council vowing to keep an eye on how it plays out.
⚡ Other Quick Hits
- Fiber-to-home expansion is moving forward (yes, faster internet is coming!).
- Stormwater management tweaks and local sewer agreements got the nod.
- Future discussions are brewing about where boarding kennels should be allowed and what setbacks make sense.
This council crew packed a lot into one night — and we’ll be keeping you in the loop as these conversations roll on!
(And yep, the workshop wrapped at a respectable 8:41 p.m. Not bad for government work!)
🧐 Did You Know?
Stay curious, Hudson!

⚾ Baseball Holds Strong at Home, Heads to Regionals!
Playoff magic is alive in Hudson! The Explorers edged out North Royalton 3–2 in a nail-biter last night (Thursday), extending their home win streak to five straight games. Over those home battles, the team’s pitching has been lights-out — holding opponents to an average of just 1.2 runs per game.
This latest victory bumps Hudson’s record to 19–6 and sends them into the regional semifinals riding high. Up next? A showdown against Clay on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Both teams have stingy defenses (Hudson allows an average of 3.2 runs, Clay just 2.6), so every run will be a fight.
Let’s keep the energy up, Hudson — these boys are chasing something special! 💙⚾✨
🥍 Boys’ Lacrosse Season Ends at Hoover
The Hudson Explorers boys’ varsity lacrosse team wrapped up their playoff run Wednesday night after a tough battle against Hoover. The final score was 21–10 in favor of the Vikings, closing out Hudson’s season in the Division I state tournament.
While the scoreboard didn’t swing our way, the team showed grit and heart all season long — making the Hudson community proud every step of the way. Hats off to the players, coaches, and fans who poured everything into this year.
Rest up, Explorers. We’ll be cheering even louder next season! 💙🥍
🎾 Sa & Shen Make Hudson Proud at State Tennis Tournament!
Hudson’s standout doubles team, Henrique Sa and Zelin Shen, wrapped up an incredible season with a strong showing at the OHSAA Division I State Tennis Tournament on May 30.
✅ First Round: Sa and Shen took down Beavercreek’s Michael Page and Noah Ehret in straight sets, 6–3, 6–2, showcasing the sharp teamwork and grit that carried them all season.
✅ Quarterfinals: Facing Sylvania’s Isaac and Landon Vens, the Hudson pair fought hard but ultimately fell short, ending their state run in the quarterfinals.
Even though the state title slipped away, making it to the top eight in Ohio is a huge accomplishment. Big congratulations to Henrique, Zelin, and the entire Hudson tennis family for a season packed with heart and hustle! 💙🎾✨
