☀️ The Scoop on Hudson Weather
It’s looking like a bit of a grab bag this week — clouds, storms, and a few golden hours tucked in between. You might want to keep the umbrella near the front door (and maybe a backup in the car, just in case).
Rainy spells will roll through this weekend, but things look brighter by next Friday — just in time for your lawn to recover from the puddle party.
- ☁️ Today (Friday, 6/13) – 78°/62°: Cloudy and calm. (Perfect weather to pretend you’re being productive.)
- 🌧️ Saturday (6/14) – 71°/62°: Rain likely all day. (Ideal conditions for indoor forts and canceled yard work.)
- ☁️ Sunday (6/15) – 78°/62°: Mostly cloudy, but dry. (Father’s Day forecast: decent enough for grilling.)
- 🌤️ Monday (6/16) – 80°/64°: Cloudy early, sunny later. (A weather mullet — business in the morning, party in the afternoon.)
- ⛈️ Tuesday (6/17) – 81°/66°: Thunderstorms possible in the PM. (Just in time to mess with your evening plans.)
- 🌦️ Wednesday (6/18) – 82°/68°: Off-and-on storms. (Bring a raincoat, and a towel for when it fails.)
- 🌦️ Thursday (6/19) – 77°/63°: More scattered storms. (June doing its best April impression.)
- 🌞 Friday (6/20) – 81°/62°: Mostly sunny and dry. (Finally — the good stuff’s back.)
Hang in there, Hudson — your weekend plans might get a little soggy, but next week’s looking up.

Father’s Day Is Coming Up — Time to Celebrate the Dads Who Do It All
This Sunday, June 15, is Father’s Day—a time to appreciate the dads, grandpas, stepdads, and father figures who show up, set the tone, and somehow fix things without reading the instructions.
It all started in 1910 thanks to Sonora Smart Dodd in Spokane, Washington. She wanted a day to honor her dad, a single father of six. The idea caught on—slowly—and became a national holiday in 1972. These days, it’s one of the most celebrated days in the country, with over 70 million cards sent and even more memories made.
Later in the issue, we’ve pulled together a full list of things to do on Father’s Day—meals, experiences, and small ways to make the day feel special.
Take the time. Say the thing. Show the love.
🏗️ Planning Commission Catch-Up
Monday night’s meeting was a long one (we’re talking bring snacks kind of long), but it came with some big updates for Hudson.
✅ Christ Community Chapel’s Field Makeover Gets Approved
After lots of back-and-forth over the past few months, Christ Community Chapel’s updated plan officially got the green light. No more outdoor stage drama—just a cleaned-up, community-friendly upgrade to the church’s front field. Here’s what’s coming:
- Synthetic turf to replace the soggy grass (goodbye mud puddles)
- A walking path with low-level lighting that shuts off by 10 PM
- A small restroom building with three private stalls
The church made it clear the goal isn’t more events—it’s a better space for Hudson families to enjoy. Think kids on the playground, a little pick-up soccer, and a place to walk or relax—not a tournament zone.
Next steps? They’ll head to the Board of Zoning & Building Appeals to sort out a couple details like fence height and restroom placement. They’re also hosting a neighborhood meeting on June 24 to keep things open and neighborly.
🏘️ Laurel Lake Villas: Round 2
Laurel Lake is back with a revised site plan to build seven villa duplexes. The only changes this time are to the three buildings near Boston Mills Road—everything else stays put.
- One building got scooted back a bit to save more trees and improve sightlines
- Driveways were redesigned to help with flow and safety
The Planning Commission made it clear this round was all about the site plan—not the previously approved conditional use.
🔍 In a nutshell
The chapel field project is a go (minus the stage), and Laurel Lake is moving forward with tweaks to its front villas.
We’ll keep our ears to the ground and our eyes on the agenda—so you don’t have to. 🕵️♂️✨
🏛️ Council Catch-Up: June 10 Workshop Recap
Tuesday night’s council workshop was a big one — packed with updates on everything from new road projects to breakfast burritos and fire trucks. Here’s what you missed (or what you can now pretend you didn’t).
- 🚧 Capital Project Blitz: The city’s annual road tour couldn’t happen this year due to scheduling, so staff brought the updates straight to the meeting. Highlights:
- Hudson’s road condition rating is 76 (that’s good!).
- Hines Hill, Ravenna Road, and other key streets are getting resurfaced.
- Sidewalks are being added along Valley View and Hines Hill.
- New parking upgrades are coming to Barlow Farm, Hudson Springs, and Robinson Parks.
- Flood studies and trail expansions (like the Boston Mills pedestrian bridge) are in full swing.
- And a shoutout to the pavement rejuvenator — our new secret weapon for extending road life.
- 🚦 Emergency Response Upgrades: Hudson’s new $3 million adaptive traffic signal system is almost live, with big help from ODOT. It should speed up emergency response times and reduce traffic backups during vehicle dispatches.
- 🌐 Fiber to the Home: The city’s pilot project is officially out to bid, with installation set to begin in August. Additional zones are in design, with rollout planned later this summer and fall.
- ⛳ Golf Clubhouse Glow-Up: Renovations at Ellsworth Meadows are underway. Think new simulator bays, updated dining, and a modern bar — all on track for a September debut.
- ❄️ Snow Plow Vouchers for Seniors: The city’s winter plow program for residents 65+ and those with disabilities got rave reviews last season. Council is planning to expand it to 100 participants this year with 5 free driveway clears per household.
- 🔥 Fire Department Talk Heats Up: Council reviewed the cost of switching from the new hybrid fire/EMS model to a fully staffed department. Price tag? Roughly $4.7 million more per year — which would likely mean a tax increase. No decisions were made, but a possible non-binding community referendum was floated for future input.
One final highlight: the next council meeting is June 17, and it’ll include a proclamation for the Hudson Middle School Science Olympiad team (science for the win!). It’ll also cover the inclusive Oak Grove playground and DORA updates — with a side of pizza-related liquor permits.
As always: stay kind, stay informed, and if you haven’t tried the Sweet James from Good Grief yet… what are you waiting for???
🎻 The Ascent of Summer Music in Hudson
Western Reserve Academy is about to transform into a concert hall of global proportions. From June 15 to July 12, Hudson will play host to the Ascent International Music Festival—a celebration of classical music featuring Grammy-winning artists, rising young talent, and more than 25 free public performances.
The first concert kicks off on June 15 at 7 PM in the WRA Chapel with a Viola & Cello Faculty Performance—a powerful launch featuring masterful musicianship from the artists leading this year’s festival.

- June 19: Galvin Cello Quartet – four cellists, countless goosebumps.
- June 29: Black Oak Ensemble – Mozart meets modern brilliance.
- July 6: Catalyst Quartet – honoring underrepresented musical voices.

If you’re still figuring out how to make Father’s Day feel special this weekend, we’ve got good news: local spots are showing up for the dads with some great deals—and all you need to bring is your appreciation (and maybe a camera).
Here’s what’s happening around town on Sunday, June 15:
- 🦒 Cleveland Metroparks Zoo – Thanks to a little hometown generosity from Wayside Furniture, dads and grandpas get in free. It’s a full day of animal encounters, walking trails, and watching the kids burn energy while Dad soaks it all in.
- 🦓 Akron Zoo – Same deal here! Free admission for all the father figures, plus enough cool critters to keep everyone smiling (and maybe snapping that perfect “Dad and penguin” pic).
- 🐟 Greater Cleveland Aquarium – Want to go under the sea instead? Dads (plus stepdads, foster dads, and grandpas) get 50% off admission on both Saturday and Sunday when another adult or child ticket is purchased. Just grab your tickets at the counter and you’re good to go—no printouts or promo codes needed.
Three easy ways to treat Dad to something fun, thoughtful, and experience-based. And unlike those socks you got him last year, this one won’t get returned.
