☀️ The Scoop on Hudson Weather

Get ready for a heatwave to start the week — summer’s coming in strong and not messing around. We’re looking at a stretch of 90s, a few stormy surprises, and a lot of sunscreen-worthy days.

It’s a week of “find me in the shade” mornings and “is it fall yet?” afternoons. Don’t worry, cooler temps and clouds make a cameo later on. Here’s the day-by-day breakdown:

  • ☀️ Today (Mon, June 23) – 93°/74°: Mostly sunny and way too hot for lawn work. (Find a pool. Any pool.)
  • ☀️ Tue, June 24 – 93°/70°: Another scorcher with barely a cloud in sight. (Hydrate like it’s your part-time job.)
  • ⛈️ Wed, June 25 – 85°/69°: Thunderstorms roll in later in the day. (Perfect timing for movie night.)
  • 🌤️ Thu, June 26 – 87°/71°: Partly cloudy and sticky. (You might consider a second shower.)
  • ⛈️ Fri, June 27 – 88°/69°: Scattered storms could crash your Friday plans. (Rain boots? Maybe. Picnic? Probably not.)
  • Sat, June 28 – 82°/67°: Cloudy morning turns into a sunny afternoon. (Best day of the week for a long walk.)
  • 🌤️ Sun, June 29 – 85°/70°: Partly cloudy with summer vibes. (Just add iced coffee and a front porch.)

A classic Northeast Ohio forecast: hot, humid, and a little dramatic. Keep your umbrella close, your water bottle closer, and your popsicles fully stocked.

📰 Fresh Off the Clocktower

🏛️ Celebrating Public Service Day

Today’s the perfect day to wave at a mail carrier, thank your favorite librarian, or just send some love to the folks who keep Hudson running smoothly. It’s Public Service Day, and we’re all about giving a shoutout to the everyday heroes who do the quiet work that makes our town feel like home.

Think firefighters, police officers, city workers, sanitation crews, teachers, and more—the people who show up early, stay late, and care a whole lot about this community. (If you spot one grabbing a coffee or standing in line at Heinen’s, go ahead and say hi.)

If you’ve got a second today, write a thank-you note, post a shoutout, or just offer a kind word. A little appreciation can make a big difference—and these folks deserve it.

Thanks to all who serve. Hudson runs better because of you.

🗳️ Your Vote = Big Help for Local Nonprofits

The Hudson Community Foundation is celebrating 25 years of giving back—and now they’re inviting you to help decide who gets a slice of the celebration pie.

They’re awarding $25,000 in bonus grants to five Hudson-based nonprofits, and your vote helps decide which ones get the support. These are organizations doing incredible work right here in town, and this is your chance to give them a little extra boost—no donation required.

💙 Vote here to support a cause you care about.

Voting is quick, easy, and open to the whole community. Let’s help shine a spotlight on the nonprofits that make Hudson stronger.

🏃‍♀️ Run, Eat, Restore

Ready to lace up for a good cause? On Saturday, June 28, Christ Community Chapel is hosting the Run to Restore 5K—a family-friendly event that blends fitness, fun, and purpose.

  • 🗓️ Saturday, June 28 | 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM

🏛️ Council Catch-Up: Standing O’s, Sidewalks & Summer Projects

The June 17 City Council meeting was part pep rally, part planning session. There were applause breaks, a little drama, and a lot of talk about what’s coming this summer and beyond. Here’s the full recap:

🎓 Middle School Science Olympiad = National Heroes
Council kicked things off with a standing ovation for the Hudson Middle School Science Olympiad team — and rightfully so. These brainiacs placed 8th in the nation and brought home a national championship win in one of the toughest events. A city proclamation recognized not just the students but also the coaches, families, and school staff who helped them soar. Cue the proud-tear cam.

🌳 Parks, Playgrounds & Future Plans
The Park Board has been busy — discussing parking at Hudson Springs, revisiting site plans, and gathering public input for future improvements. Council approved a contract to begin designing the new Hudson Inclusive Playground at Oak Grove Park. The goal? A fun, accessible space for all ages and abilities. It's exciting to see this project moving forward!

🚒 What’s Up with the Fire Department?
There’s still plenty of discussion around Hudson’s future fire coverage. A hybrid staffing model is on the table and would cost around $900K per year — or about $113 annually for a $500K home. Council clarified that no decisions have been made yet, and a full-time model isn't currently being pursued.

🧾 What Got the Green Light?

  • ✅ May financial reports
  • ✅ Liquor permit notice for a local pizzeria
  • ✅ Bid approvals for a new Heinen’s parking lot exit and an ADA-accessible kayak ramp
  • ✅ Contract for design work on the Oak Grove Park playground

🎨 Art on the Green — Back Downtown?
Organizers are hoping to bring the 2026 art festival back to the downtown greens. Think: over 150 artists, two greens, and a big weekend boost for local shops. But it does overlap with the farmers market, so Council asked for more planning before making anything official.

🚰 Nicholson Waterline Project
A $2.6 million project is in the works to strengthen Hudson’s water system, with nearly $1 million in federal grant funding already secured. Council is deciding whether to proceed now or hold off to pursue more outside funding. A decision is expected later this summer.

🗓️ Odds & Ends

  • Fireworks are back July 5 at Barlow Farm Park (thanks, Hudson Community Foundation!)
  • Council is on summer recess — the next meeting is set for July 8

That’s your June council rundown — part science celebration, part summer strategy session. We’ll keep following the big stuff — waterline projects, playground plans, art fair moves — and let you know when things get real.

Until then, enjoy the long days, the short meetings (well… mostly short), and the fact that your city is buzzing with people who care.

🧐 Did You Know?

Hippos might look like graceful water gliders, but plot twist—they can’t swim. Their bones are so heavy and dense that they sink straight to the bottom. So instead of floating, they kind of bounce-run along the riverbed like giant, underwater toddlers in slow motion.

Even more impressive? They can snooze underwater and still come up for air without waking up. It's like sleepwalking, but way more aquatic.

Stay curious, Hudson!

📅 The Scoop To-Do List

🍔 Cleveland Burger Week Is Back!

Get hungry, Hudson—Cleveland Burger Week is sizzling from June 23–29, and it's serving up $9 gourmet burgers from some of the tastiest spots in Northeast Ohio.

Think juicy patties, wild toppings, and off-menu creations that only come out for this one glorious week. It’s a celebration of burgers, local flavor, and eating your way through the city (with napkins, obviously).

Here’s how it works:

  • 🍽️ Browse the full list of participating restaurants and specials
  • 📍 Map out your burger trail
  • 📱 Check in with the official Burger Week app to earn points, prizes, and bragging rights

Hit 5 locations and you’ll be entered to win $250 in gift cards and more. So yes, your burger addiction might just pay off.

Let’s hear it for buns, beef, and the bold spirit of local flavor.

🍕 Pizza Enters the Chat…

So you’ve got your Cleveland Burger Week plan mapped out (if not, scroll up and fix that). But don’t put away your appetite just yet—Pizza Wars is crashing the party on Wednesday, June 25, and it’s bringing serious slice energy to the mix.

Hosted by Mayfield Village Parks & Rec, this lunchtime showdown features blind taste testing from local pizzerias, where you get to vote for the best signature slice, best pepperoni, and overall pizza royalty. And because carbs are better with a soundtrack, there’ll be a live performance by Hair Supply (yes, that’s a real band name and yes, we love it).

  • 🗓️ Wednesday, June 25 | 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM
  • 📍 Mayfield Village Community Room (6621 Wilson Mills Rd)
  • 🎶 Pizza + live music + community = midweek magic

Burgers on Monday, pizza on Wednesday—this is peak Northeast Ohio living.

🎸 James Taylor at Blossom – This Tuesday!

If you need a little calm between Burger Week bites and Pizza Wars slices, here’s your perfect midweek reset: James Taylor is playing Blossom Music Center on Tuesday, June 24 at 7:30 PM, and it’s going to be one of those “bucket list” kind of nights.

He’ll be joined by his All-Star Band, playing all the classics—Fire and Rain, Carolina in My Mind, You’ve Got a Friend—with that signature warmth and steady groove that’s made him a legend for, well, decades.

Bring a blanket, pack your patience for Blossom traffic, and soak up a summer evening full of timeless tunes and good vibes. It’s the kind of show you’ll be glad you didn’t miss.

🎟️ Buy tickets here.

Treat yourself to a little midweek magic—you’ve earned it!

🎬 La La Land Under the Stars (Sort of)

Okay, it’s not until July, but we’re giving you a heads-up now because these tickets don’t stick around for long. The Great Lakes Science Center is back with its new monthly movie series—DOME Movies After Dark—and July’s feature is La La Land on that massive Cleveland Clinic DOME Theater screen.

The showing is on Thursday, July 3 at 6 PM. Doors open about 10 minutes before the film starts, and seating is first-come, first-served. They’ll have all the good stuff at the concession stand: popcorn, pretzels, candy, pizza, and even a full bar.

Big screen, big sound, and a summer night out done right.

🎟️ Purchase tickets here.

🎭 Hamilton Hits Playhouse Square

Just in time to add a little drama (the good kind) to your summer plans—Hamilton is now playing at Playhouse Square’s KeyBank State Theatre through July 6.

Yes, that Hamilton. The one with the Tony Awards, the hip-hop history lessons, and the standing ovations. Whether it’s your first time or your fifth, this is one of those “drop everything and go” kind of shows.

Shows are running now through July 6 with evening performances and a few matinees sprinkled in. It’s the perfect excuse for a downtown night out—maybe dinner, a show, and some bragging rights.

Don’t throw away your shot!

🏆 Roll Hud Recap

🏆 OKC Brings the Thunder

Well, it finally happened—the Oklahoma City Thunder are NBA champions, and it was a Game 7 finish to remember.

They took down the Indiana Pacers 103–91 in the final game Sunday night, capping off a season that was already looking legendary. It’s the Thunder’s first NBA title since moving to Oklahoma, and only their second in franchise history (the first came way back in 1979 when they were still the Seattle SuperSonics).

The standout? Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who dropped 29 points and 12 assists and grabbed both the Finals MVP and Regular Season MVP titles. The last time someone pulled that off? Shaq. In 2002. Yeah—it was that kind of season.

OKC also finished the regular season with a jaw-dropping 68–14 record, one of the best ever. The Pacers fought hard but lost star guard Tyrese Haliburton early in the game, and never quite found their footing after that.

So if you’ve got any Thunder fans in your life, maybe send them a congratulatory text... or a thunderbolt emoji. They’ve earned it.
