☀️ The Scoop on Hudson Weather

We’re in that magical summer stretch where your weather app becomes a guessing game and your A/C gets a standing ovation. This week? We’re riding the highs and lows—literally. Think sun, storms, and just enough humidity to make your hair question everything.

Here’s what’s blowing into Hudson:

  • 🌤️ Today (Fri, July 11) – 87°/70°: Partly cloudy with a breeze from the southwest. Basically perfect for porch-sitting or backyard procrastinating.
  • 🌤️ Sat, July 12 – 90°/71°: A hot one! Slight chance of rain, but mostly just a good excuse to visit a splash pad or stand directly in front of the fridge.
  • ⛈️ Sun, July 13 – 84°/67°: Thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Start your day strong, and maybe don’t leave anything inflatable on the lawn.
  • 🌧️ Mon, July 14 – 84°/63°: Morning showers, afternoon clearing. The kind of Monday that demands coffee and forgiveness.
  • ☀️ Tue, July 15 – 88°/67°: Sunny, summery, spectacular. Sunscreen, shorts, and smug smiles all around.
  • 🌤️ Wed, July 16 – 91°/71°: Hot and partly cloudy. Good day to be indoors... or floating in something cold and chlorinated.
  • ⛈️ Thu, July 17 – 85°/66°: Thunderstorms back again. Hudson skies just keeping us on our toes.
  • 🌥️ Fri, July 18 – 74°/59°: Cooler with some clouds. A little break from the heat—your lawn will thank you.

So yeah—pack an umbrella and sunglasses. It’s Ohio. You know the drill.

📰 Fresh Off the Clocktower

🥤 Happy 7/11 Day, Hudson!

It’s officially Slurpee Day, the one national holiday where the only thing that matters is brain freeze—and we’re fully on board.

Here’s the scoop:
Swing by any participating 7-Eleven, Speedway, or Stripes today only (Friday, July 11) and you’ll score a free small Slurpee between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. No purchase, no app, no guilt. Just glorious, syrupy refreshment in a cup.

And if you're part of the 7Rewards or Speedy Rewards crew? Scan your app today and you’ll get a second free Slurpee coupon to use later this month. One now, one for “emergencies.” Planning!

Now for the brain-freezing bonus round:

  • Slurpees were invented by accident in the 1950s when a soda machine broke, and someone tossed the chilled, slushy results into a cup. Chaos turned to genius.
  • The name “7-Eleven” comes from the store’s original hours—7 a.m. to 11 p.m.—which were shockingly generous back in 1946. (They’re now open 24/7, obviously.)
  • The first Slurpee flavor ever sold? Coca-Cola, followed closely by Cherry. Both still slap.
  • There’s a Mountain Dew Infinite Swirl flavor available today for the die-hards and the brave.
  • This year’s cups come with tongue tattoos. Yes, your Slurpee might temporarily brand your taste buds with an “S.” Worth it.

So go forth and slurp like it’s your civic duty. You deserve some indulgence.

🧾 City Council Catch-Up: What’s New Around Town

The July 8 City Council meeting didn’t disappoint—plenty of updates, a little tension, and a few big steps forward for Hudson. Here’s what went down:

🚲 Trails, Ahoy!
Council unanimously approved acquiring land to extend the Veterans Trail into Stow, connecting Hudson’s trail system to the Summit Metro Parks Bike and Hike Trail. If you’re a walker, biker, or general outdoor enthusiast—this is a big win.

🏫 Accessibility Gets the Green Light
Council gave a thumbs up to ADA upgrades at several Hudson City School buildings. Expect improvements at East Woods, McDowell, and Evamere that will make things easier for everyone to navigate—students, staff, and visitors included.

📚 Shared Parking for the Library (and Church)
The Library and First Congregational Church will now officially share parking and signage, thanks to a new joint-use agreement. It’s a small but meaningful move to ease the daily downtown parking scramble.

🏞️ Artificial Turf: Not As Low-Maintenance As It Looks
Parks staff delivered a friendly PSA: turf fields require upkeep, too. From hot surface temps to sanitizing routines and worn-down seams, it’s not exactly “set it and forget it.” Just something to keep in mind for future planning.

📝 Land Development Code: Hold That Thought
The Planning Commission is still working through the city’s draft Land Development Code revisions. Council agreed to give them more time, so we’re in a bit of a holding pattern there.

👨‍💼 Assistant City Manager Proposal: Not This Time
A proposal to create a new Assistant City Manager role hit a wall. Council couldn’t reach a consensus, with concerns about cost and timing. It may come back around later, but for now—no changes to City Hall’s roster.

🗓️ Coming Soon…
Expect future discussions about downtown development, road work priorities, and the budget timeline. Things may slow down for summer, but there’s still plenty simmering beneath the surface.

And don’t worry—we’ll keep an ear on the mic so you don’t have to. 🧠👂

🛍️ Prime Day Ends TONIGHT at 11:59 PM

This is your last call! Prime Day wraps up tonight, and we pulled together a list of the best deals still going strong—deep discounts, great reviews, and plenty of reasons to hit “buy now.”

Happy deal hunting, Hudson!

🧐 Did You Know?

Move over TikTok — chimpanzees are out here starting fashion trends in the wild.

At the Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage in Zambia, one bold chimp stuck a piece of grass in his ear for no real reason… and the others copied him. Fast forward, and now they’re doing it with twigs, leaves, and even more creative placements (let’s just say one chimp named Juma is redefining “back pocket”).

Researchers say it’s proof that chimps, like humans, follow social trends just to fit in. No functional purpose. No food. Just vibes.

So if you’ve ever joined a trend just because everyone else was doing it—congrats, you’re basically a chimpanzee with better Wi‑Fi.

Stay curious, Hudson!

📅 The Scoop To-Do List

🛍️ Garage Sale Goals: Plymouth Village Takes Over

It’s official: Hudson’s biggest neighborhood garage sale of the summer is on, and today’s your perfect day to browse, bargain, and maybe bring home a chair you absolutely didn’t plan to buy.

Head over to Plymouth Village (1810 Miles Standish Ln and surrounding streets) where 60+ homes are participating in this community-wide treasure hunt. From vintage finds to sports gear, furniture, collectibles, and antiques—there’s something for everyone (including the mildly nosy neighbor in all of us).

📍 Entrances: off Route 91 just south of 303, with maps available at the homes at the following entrances:

  • 91/Stoney Hill
  • Terex/Barlow

🕘 Hours: Today and tomorrow, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, rain or shine.

Go for the deals, stay for the oddly satisfying joy of chatting with folks about an antique gravy boat you didn’t know you needed.

🎶 Summer Music Nights: Mick & Rick Band at First & Main

Hudson, your Friday night plans just got an upgrade. The Mick & Rick Band is hitting the stage tonight from 7–9 PM on the First & Main Green, and you’re officially invited to kick back, tap your toes, and enjoy the sounds of summer.

Bonus: past shows have included giveaways, sidewalk chalk for the kids, and the kind of neighborly fun that reminds you why Hudson feels like home.

Need-to-knows:

It runs from 10 AM to 4 PM right on the lawn of the historic Marvin Kent Home—yes, that Kent. Expect 100+ local vendors offering everything from handcrafted jewelry and artisan candles to retro collectibles and small-batch treats.

Add in the live music, historic charm, and a few snack trucks serving up lemonade and fried goodness, and you’ve got a Saturday that’s basically begging for a cute tote bag and a spontaneous purchase.

Need-to-knows:
📍 409 W Main St, Kent, OH
🕙 10 AM – 4 PM
💸 Free to attend (but maybe not to resist)
🎁 Come for the shopping, stay for the vibes

🎨 Chalk It Up, Hudson!

Ready to turn the sidewalks into your personal canvas? This Saturday, July 12, First & Main is getting a colorful makeover for Chalk Fest, hosted by our friends at Door2 Art Studio. From 9 AM to 3:30 PM, downtown Hudson transforms into a walkable art gallery—and yes, you’re invited to be one of the featured artists.

It’s totally free and super casual. Show up, grab some chalk (they’ll provide it), and start creating right on the sidewalks of First & Main and Main Street. No pressure, no judging—just good vibes, good weather, and plenty of creative energy.

This is one of those events that makes Hudson feel like a postcard. Local kids sketching suns and superheroes, parents doodling hearts, teens getting way too into their anime dragons—it’s all part of the charm.

When: Saturday, July 12 from 9 AM to 3:30 PM
Where: First & Main and Main Street sidewalks
Cost: Free to join, free to draw, free to admire
Who: You. Your kids. Your neighbor. Your golden retriever if they’re well-behaved.

You can register here to reserve a spot or just show up and start chalking. Bring water, wear something chalk-friendly, and snap some photos while your masterpiece lasts. It’s sidewalk art season—let’s make Hudson shine.

🧺 Clocktower Mornings & Farmers Market Finds

There’s something about Saturday mornings in Hudson that just feels right—and the Hudson Farmers Market is a big part of that. Every Saturday through October 11, the greens around the clocktower and gazebo come alive with local flavor from 9 AM to 12:30 PM.

With over 40 vendors each week, you’ll find everything from fresh produce and pasture-raised meats to small-batch jams, local honey, and handmade goods you didn’t know you needed. It’s more than just a market—it’s a little community gathering wrapped in sunshine and zucchini.

And yes, Fat T’s Cookies is usually there too. One of the Hudson Scoop staff may or may not have tried the cinnabun cookie last weekend. It might have been life-changing. No comment.

Shopping the market isn’t just about filling your bag—it’s about supporting local farmers, bakers, makers, and neighbors who pour their hearts into their work. Every dollar you spend stays close to home and helps our community thrive.

So grab a coffee, bring a tote, and come say hi. There’s live music, happy dogs, and a whole lot of good energy waiting for you—plus the best excuse to buy fresh flowers and cookies before noon.

🧘‍♀️ Flow, Then Fill Your Tote: Farmers Market Yoga Is Back

There’s yoga… and then there’s Farmers Market Yoga—where your final savasana is followed by fresh peaches and handmade granola. Hosted by Yoga Lounge & Barre, this rotating outdoor class series brings gentle stretches and good vibes to the Park Lane Green, right next to the Hudson Farmers Market.

Each class lines up with a market Saturday and alternates between a Gentle Flow (hello, sunrise stretch) and a Foundations Flow that’s perfect for all levels. It’s a one-hour outdoor reset that benefits the Farmers Market and leaves you feeling centered and ready to shop.

🗓️ Upcoming Session:
Saturday, July 12 at 10:45 AM | Yoga Foundations
🧺 Location: Right next to the market — Park Lane Green, Hudson
💵 Cost: $20 donation (supports the Hudson Farmers Market!)
🌧️ Rain Plan: Class moves indoors at Yoga Lounge
🧘‍♂️ What to Bring: Mat, water, sun protection

Come for the flow, stay for the local squash and sourdough. It’s a community wellness win, all the way around.

You can check the full season schedule or register for this weekend’s class here.

🎬 Star Wars Under the Stars? Yes, Please.

Grab your lightsabers and lawn chairs, Hudson—Screen on the Green is back this Saturday, July 12 at 8:30 PM with a galactic classic on deck: Star Wars!

It’s the second free movie night of the summer, and the First & Main Green is turning into our very own outdoor theater. These events are completely free, family-friendly, and perfect for a cozy night under the stars. (Bonus points if you show up in costume.)

Bring a blanket, pack some snacks, and settle in for Jedi-level fun right in the heart of town.

Where: First & Main Green
When: Saturday, July 12 | Movie starts at 8:30 PM
Cost: Free (but popcorn's on you)

The Force is strong with this one—and so is the community movie night tradition.

🌿 Reset on the Trail: Mindful Hike at Cascade Park

Sunday mornings are made for slowing down — and this one’s got “peaceful reset” written all over it. The Friends of Hudson Parks are hosting a Mindful Hike this Sunday, July 13 from 9 to 10 AM at Cascade Park, and it’s not your average trek.

This guided, slow-paced hike is designed to tune you in — to the rustling trees, your own breath, and the kind of stillness that’s hard to come by in everyday life. No step goals, no rush. Just fresh air, a friendly group, and a chance to walk with intention.

Where: Cascade Park – 130 Lynn Drive (meet at the Holden Pavilion at the end of Lynn Drive, near the intersection of East and West Case)
When: Sunday, July 13 | 9–10 AM
Cost: Free
Bring: Comfy shoes and a willingness to unplug

Rain or shine (with adjustments if it storms), this is one of those simple Sunday pleasures that sets the tone for the whole week. And hey — the Farmers Market’s right around the corner, so it’s the perfect excuse to keep the peaceful vibes rolling straight into peach season.

🛍️ Sunday Vibes: The CLE Market in Rocky River

Feeling like a little weekend wandering? The CLE Market is popping up this Sunday, July 13, from 2–6 PM at the Rocky River Recreation Center—and it’s bringing the goods. Over 120 local vendors will be set up with everything from vintage finds and handmade candles to small-batch snacks, artwork, plants, and the kind of jewelry that makes you say “I need this” even if you don’t.

The setup has that open-air, chill-but-buzzing energy—easy to stroll, fun to explore, and ideal for snagging something you won’t find at Target.

Add in a few gourmet food trucks, good music, and plenty of friendly folks, and it’s basically a Cleveland-style Sunday done right.

Where: Rocky River Rec Center - 21016 Hilliard Boulevard in Rocky River
When: Sunday, July 13 | 2–6 PM
Cost: Free to wander, dangerous for your wallet
Why Go: 120+ vendors, local everything, and some really good lemonade

Support the makers. Eat the cookies. Buy the earrings. And maybe grab something for your friend… but mostly for you.

🛍️ Beachland Flea Joins the Weekend Market Parade

Flea market season is in full swing, and if you’re keeping count, this is the third one on our weekend radar. Hudson’s got its farmers market. Kent’s got its vintage charm. And now? Cleveland’s Collinwood neighborhood is bringing the goods with the Beachland Summer Flea.

It’s happening Sunday, July 13 from 10 AM to 3 PM at the one-and-only Beachland Ballroom & Tavern—a beloved music venue turned treasure trove for the day. We’re talking 120+ vendors, inside and out, slinging everything from vinyl and vintage threads to handmade art, jewelry, quirky home goods, and those oddball gems you didn’t know you needed.

The vibe? Chill, a little nostalgic, and very “Sunday in the city.” Bonus: there’s usually food and coffee on-site, so you can browse with a latte in hand like a true flea market pro.

Where: Beachland Ballroom & Tavern, 15711 Waterloo Rd, Cleveland
When: Sunday, July 13 | 10 AM–3 PM
Cost: Free to browse (wallet damage depends on your willpower)

If you’re feeling adventurous, hop in the car and make it a market-hopping weekend. Just don’t blame us when you come home with a handmade candle, three vintage tees, and a ceramic owl lamp.

🎶 Music, Pizza, and a Hudson Tradition

This Sunday, July 13, the Hudson Bandstand Summer Music Festival continues its long-standing tradition with a hometown favorite: ClockTower takes the stage at the Clocktower Green for a night of live music, community spirit, and summer magic.

The event is sponsored by Fleet Response, and the always-popular Scott’s Fire & Ice food truck will be parked and ready with wood-fired pizza and creamy gelato for sale. Come hungry, stay for the music, and bring your people.

📍 Where: Clocktower Green
🕰️ When: Sunday, July 13 | Music starts at 6:30 PM
🎸 Band: ClockTower
🍕 Food: Scott’s Fire & Ice food truck (pizza + gelato)
💸 Cost: Free to attend, food available for purchase
