š ļø Quick Note from the Scoop Staff
We got the post about the July 8 City Council meeting wrong in a previous issue, and we truly regret the mistake. We care deeply about getting things right, and when we miss the mark in such a spectacular fashion like that, it reminds us that we need to do better.
Weāre grateful to those who reached out to help us course-correct (thanks, Jody!).
To all our readers, thanks for supporting the Scoop ā it means the world to us.
āļø The Scoop on Hudson Weather
This week, the skies are serving up a bit of everything: a breezy cool-down, a short stormy spell, and a sizzling comeback by weekās end. Itās a classic Northeast Ohio shuffle ā just when you get used to 70s, the 80s come knocking again.
- āļø Today (Friday, July 18) ā 78°/62°: Cloudy in the morning, sunshine in the afternoon. (Basically, the weather version of coffee turning into happy hour.)
- š¤ļø Saturday, July 19 ā 86°/70°: Partly cloudy and warm with a light southern breeze. (Great day for a patio lunch... or a flea market stroll.)
- š¦ļø Sunday, July 20 ā 77°/59°: A few morning showers, then cooling down. (Might want to reschedule that early brunch to indoors.)
- āļø Monday, July 21 ā 78°/57°: Mostly sunny, low humidity, and mild. (Basically ideal. Go touch some grass.)
- š¤ļø Tuesday, July 22 ā 82°/64°: Partly cloudy and calm. (A perfectly average Tuesday, and weāre here for it.)
- š¤ļø Wednesday, July 23 ā 87°/70°: Warm and sunny with just enough clouds to remind you itās still summer. (Pool day approved.)
- āļø Thursday, July 24 ā 88°/71°: Scattered thunderstorms. (The skies are flexing again ā maybe donāt leave your windows down.)
- āļø Friday, July 25 ā 84°/68°: More storms in the mix, but still steamy. (Great excuse to stay inside and watch a mystery movie.)
So yes, itās a little all over the place ā but itās shaping up to be a classic Hudson summer week: sun, sweat, and just enough thunder to keep us humble.

Scoop of the Litter: Meet Piglet, Our Pet of the Week
This curious little explorer is Piglet ā a 35-pound trail enthusiast with a serious case of wanderlust. If your idea of a good day involves leash walks, backyard adventures, or hiking trails with a four-legged buddy, Piglet is 100% your guy.
Heās not too fussed about other dogs or cats ā heās a solo explorer at heart ā and while he might seem a bit independent outdoors, he flips the switch indoors and turns into a total cuddlebug. Belly rubs, back scratches, lap time? Yes, please.
Piglet is about 3 years old and came to town from a high-intake shelter near the OH/KY border. Now heās ready for his next big adventure ā maybe with you?

𧬠CRISPR's Back with a Vision-Saving Win
If you've been reading The Scoop for a bit, youāve probably seen us geek out over CRISPRāthe gene-editing rockstar that keeps rewriting the rules of medicine. Well, it's back in the headlines again, and this time it's helping people literallysee whatās possible.
In a brand-new study, scientists used CRISPR to treat Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA10)āa rare genetic condition that causes blindness in kids. The treatment was injected straight into the retina, and for most participants, it actually improved their vision. One person said they could now see colors and shapes they hadnāt seen in years.
No sci-fi goggles. No magical eye drops. Just real science doing real good.
Researchers are calling this a major milestoneānot just for blindness, but for proving that CRISPR can safely edit genes inside the human body to fix inherited diseases.
Next steps: more trials, more fine-tuning, andāhopefullyāmore breakthroughs.
Itās a big win for science, and a hopeful glimpse of whatās coming next. We'll keep our eyes on it š and bring you the updates that are actually worth reading.
The future looks bright.Literally.

š„¬ Fresh from the Farm: The Case-Barlow Farm Stand Is Back
Thereās something downright wholesome about grabbing your veggies from a historic farmhouse instead of a supermarket shelf. So, if youāve been craving crisp cucumbers, backyard-grown herbs, or a bottle of seriously legendary root beer, your midweek plans just got tastier.
The Case-Barlow Farm Stand is officially open every Wednesday from 4ā6 PM, now through September. Youāll find it set up right in the front driveway at 1931 Barlow Road, just beside Barlow Farm Park.
Whatās in the basket?
- Herbs, beans, garlic, cucumbers, lettuce, beets, tomatoes, potatoes, and more
- CBFās own handcrafted root beer - Who knew that was even a thing??
- Locally made baked goods and other farm-fresh extras depending on the week
Everythingās grown and gathered on-site by Case-Barlowās incredible crew of volunteers. And when the weather misbehaves, the stand simply shifts into the cozy wagon shed down the driveābecause even veggies need shelter now and then.
Proceeds help support the nonprofitās mission to preserve and maintain the historic property, which is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Bring your bag, your appetite, and your love of local.
Cash and cards welcome. Root beer highly encouraged.
šļø City Council Catch-Up (July 15 Meeting)
Tuesdayās council meeting started a little late after a long workshop, but once things got rolling, it was quick and packed with updates. Here's what happened at Town Hall:
šŖ¦ Cemetery Upgrades & History Hunts
The Cemetery Board is approaching a record-high fund balance and plans to repair rather than demolish one of the buildings on-site. Theyāre also looking into adding another columbarium (where ashes are stored) since space is running low.
Mark your calendar: another Old Town Cemetery Tour is scheduled for Sept. 20, this time with a fun scavenger hunt for kids to find famous names on headstones.
š Clearing Up Charter Confusion
Council discussed the need for a clear, centralized source of info about the upcoming charter amendments on the November ballot. Topics like council pay and library election changes are generating questions.
The good news? The city is legally required to publish an objective voter guide, and staff confirmed itās on the way.
ā” New Energy Law & Local Impacts
The Environmental Committee flagged a new state energy law that could impact both private utility users and Hudson Public Power customers. It could bring economic challenges but also new opportunities for local energy generation.
Other updates:
- A land-use subcommittee has been formed to support sustainable practices
- A zoning code review is underway
- An EV Car Show is set for August 13 at Johnnyās Diner
šļø Planning Commission Recap
Highlights from the latest meeting:
- A 21-unit townhouse proposal was denied due to stormwater issues and overcrowding concerns
- A church expansion was approved without a sidewalk requirement, which raised questions about consistency with past developments
- Zoning rule changes were recommended that remove vet clinics and kennels from one district, while keeping the 500-ft buffer in others

- A new natural gas supply agreement
- Design work for upcoming Fire & EMS facility updates
š° Downtown Phase 2 Design Sparks Debate
A proposed $125,000 for early design work on Downtown Phase 2 was pulled from the budget after several council members asked for more time and details before approving.
Everything else passed, including:
- A change order for electrical substation upgrades
- An $18,000 escrow refund to a developer
- Other routine appropriations
š§¾ Other Legislation
- A revised ordinance covering administrative appeals was approved
- A proposal to remove senior housing types from certain commercial districts was sent to the Planning Commission

šļø And⦠Weāre Adjourned
Nothing flashy this time around ā just steady progress, thoughtful conversations, and a few more bricks in the road ahead for Hudson. As always, weāll keep you in the loop.
š§ Did You Know?
Horseshoe crab blood is bright blueāand itās saving your life! No, really. Almost every vaccine, IV, and surgical implant youāve ever received was tested using this wild biological marvel.
Horseshoe crab blood is uniquely sensitive to bacterial contaminants. Scientists use a substance derived from it (called LAL) to check for toxins in anything that might go inside your body. If the blood detects something dangerous? It clots instantly, acting like a microscopic security guard.
Hereās how it works: Horseshoe crabs are carefully collected from the wild, a portion of their blood is drawn (yes, itās blue thanks to copper), and then theyāre returned to the ocean. Itās not perfect, but it's helped save millions of livesāand yours has almost certainly benefited.
Isn't modern medicine amazing???
Stay curious, Hudson!

š A Little Heads-Up for Music Lovers
This oneās not happening this weekend (and it isn't free)ābut with all the live music packed into this issue, we couldnāt leave it out. Plus, since itās already sold out, we figured our readers would want the inside scoop while thereās still time to snag resale tickets.

š LeBron to the Cavs? Hereās the Scoop
Clevelandās rumor mill is heating up (again), and yepāitās all about LeBron.
But before you dust off your #23 jersey and start planning a parade, hereās whatās actually happening:
- LeBronās staying with the Lakers for the 2025ā26 season. No trade, no buyout, no private jet to Clevelandājust SoCal sun and courtside celebs.
- Four teams reportedly showed interest, and yes, the Cavs made the list. But thereās been no confirmed contact between Cleveland and LeBronās camp.
- A reunion would take a $52.6 million buyout, which is⦠a lot of hot dog sales at concession stands.
- And even if he did become available, word is the Cavs arenāt rushing to roll out the wine-and-gold carpet. Big contract, no-trade clause, and a team already juggling big decisions.
Bottom line? LeBronās still a Lakerāand while a third stint in Cleveland isnāt impossible, itās not exactly in motion. Still, never say never when #23 is involved. Just maybe donāt get the jerseys reprinted quite yet.
