☀️ The Scoop on Hudson Weather

Break out the lawn chairs and lemonade—this week’s forecast is delivering some serious summer serenity. No major storms, no dramatic heat waves, just a calm, breezy stretch of sunny days and clear-ish nights. If you’ve been meaning to tackle yardwork, plan a picnic, or finally wash the car—this is your moment.

  • ☀️ Friday, Aug 1 – 75°/51°: Mostly sunny with a cool breeze from the northeast. (Ideal beer-drinking weather… just in time for International Beer Day.)
  • 🌤️ Saturday, Aug 2 – 77°/54°: Partly cloudy and pleasant. (Perfect for morning walks and late-night porch hangs.)
  • ☀️ Sunday, Aug 3 – 81°/56°: Mostly sunny and warming up. (The kind of day that just begs for a backyard cookout.)
  • ☀️ Monday, Aug 4 – 83°/61°: More sunshine on tap. (If your grass isn’t thriving by now, it’s not the weather’s fault.)
  • 🌤️ Tuesday, Aug 5 – 81°/61°: Partly cloudy with a small chance of rain. (But we’re not betting on it.)
  • 🌤️ Wednesday, Aug 6 – 83°/62°: Still holding steady—warmer, with a hint of humidity. (Might be a hair-frizz day.)
  • 🌤️ Thursday, Aug 7 – 82°/63°: Partly cloudy and a bit more moisture in the air. (Not enough to cancel plans, but maybe keep an umbrella in the trunk.)
  • ☀️ Friday, Aug 8 – 85°/67°: Mostly sunny with a southerly breeze. (End-of-week energy: relaxed, golden, and just a little toasty.)

Looks like August is showing up with its best behavior—enjoy the calm before the back-to-school buzz kicks in!

🐶 Scoop of the Litter: Meet Benji

This sweet cotton puff is Benji, and he’s looking for a fresh start and a soft spot to call home.

He’s currently at the Cleveland Animal Protective League, where this weekend (Aug 2–3), they’re waiving adoption fees for adult animals as part of their Clear the Shelter promotion. So if your porch is missing a pint-sized shadow or your lap has been feeling a little too empty—Benji might just be your guy.

With those expressive eyes and that glorious swirl of curls on his head, he’s got “neighborhood celebrity” written all over him.

📍 You can meet Benji at:
Cleveland Animal Protective League
1729 Willey Avenue
Cleveland, OH 44113

Visiting hours and adoption details are at clevelandapl.org.

Let’s help this handsome fluffball find his forever family. Hudson love travels far. 💙

📰 Fresh Off the Clocktower

🍻 Happy International Beer Day, Hudson!

It's Friday. It's August. And it's officially International Beer Day—which means it's practically a civic duty to raise a glass and celebrate the brewers, bartenders, and local legends behind every perfect pour.

Here’s how to make the most of it, Hudson-style:

➡️ Green Valley Brewing Co.
Our hometown brewery is pouring fresh, small-batch brews that hit the spot every time. It’s tucked away on Milford Drive, but step inside and you’ll find a welcoming taproom, friendly faces, and a lineup worth toasting.

➡️ Kepner’s Tavern
Right on North Main, Kepner’s is always a solid move. Grab a table, order a domestic bucket (5-for-$15 is the deal), and enjoy the kind of classic bar energy that feels just right for a Friday.

➡️ The Brew Kettle – Hudson
With 30+ beers on tap and BBQ that practically demands a side of IPA, Brew Kettle is ready to keep your pint glass full and your night delicious.

🎉 Plus: Miller Lite Is Buying Your First Beer (Sort Of)

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Miller Lite is giving away 50,000 beers nationwide today—and it’s all happening online.

At 4:50 PM local time, they’re hosting a nationwide “beer drop” and digital toast. You can join the fun (and get a free beer) by heading to millerlite.com/toast.

Fill out the quick form and, if you’re 21+, you’ll get a $5 digital reward (usually via Venmo or a prepaid card). No purchase. No bar visit. Just a quick click and a cold one on Miller.

The Scoop Game Plan:

  • Claim your free beer online before 4:50 PM
  • Join the nationwide toast from wherever you are
  • Then head to Green Valley, Kepner’s, or Brew Kettle to keep the celebration local

Because here in Hudson, we know beer isn’t just a beverage—it’s a reason to gather, laugh, and make Friday feel just a little more golden.

Cheers to the brews that bring us together. 🍻

🍑 Peach Alert at Hudson Acme

This Sunday, August 3, from 11 AM to 4 PM, the Bauman Orchards historic peach truck is rolling into the Hudson Acme—and it’s loaded with fresh, juicy goodness.

They’ll be selling local, farm-fresh peaches by the case, straight from their orchard to your pie, cobbler, sangria, or snack bowl. It’s the kind of seasonal treat you don’t want to miss.

Get there early—because once they’re gone, they’re gone.

🏛️ End-of-Summer Field Trip, Anyone?

Before the backpacks come out and the buses start rolling, there’s still time for one last adventure—and we’ve got a list that’s smart, fun, and maybe even a little sneaky (as in, the kids won’t realize they’re learning).

Hudson’s in the perfect spot for a mini museum road trip, and these spots are stacked with dinosaurs, art, science, illusions, and more.

🎨 Close to Home

Did you know the Hudson Library is low-key the best museum hack in town? You can actually borrow free passes to some of Northeast Ohio’s top cultural spots—just like checking out a book. Participating museums include:

Just note: passes are available first-come, first-served and can’t be reserved in advance. They’re loaned for one week to library cardholders in good standing (age 18+), and overdue fees are steep—so don’t stash it in the glove box and forget.

You can find all the details here.

They’re a rare but powerful reminder that the best stuff around here doesn’t always make a ton of noise—it’s quietly waiting to be discovered.

🖼️ Cleveland (about an hour)

🔬 Toledo (about 2 hours)

🧠 Columbus (2 hours)

🎨 Pittsburgh (2 hours)

🎒 Before You Say “We Didn’t Do Anything This Summer…”

Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus, and Pittsburgh all have amazing museums within easy driving distance—and many of them are free or budget-friendly. With just a week or two before school kicks off, it’s the perfect time to pack snacks, turn off the phones, and make one of these day trips into a summer highlight.

Don't overthink it—just pick a spot and go make a memory!

🧐 Did You Know?

A massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula this week triggered tsunami waves that reached as far as Japan and Hawaii.

Despite waves reaching up to 16 feet along parts of the Russian coast, no deaths were reported—and only minor injuries and coastal flooding occurred, thanks to quick alerts and fast-acting evacuation systems.

Tsunamis are rare, but when they happen, they’re one of Earth’s most powerful and awe-inspiring forces. Here are some wild facts:

🌊 Tsunami waves can reach speeds of up to 500 mph in open water—about as fast as a jet airplane.

🛥️ In deep ocean, tsunamis can pass under ships without being noticed. They only grow in height when they hit shallow coastal waters.

🧭 Most tsunamis are triggered by underwater earthquakes, but they can also come from volcanoes, landslides, or even meteor impacts.

🏝️ The word “tsunami” comes from Japanese and means “harbor wave.”

⏳ Some tsunami waves can travel thousands of miles across ocean basins with very little loss of energy.

🚨 Warning signs can include a sudden retreat of the sea, ground shaking, or strange ocean sounds—like a roaring or sucking noise.

They’re a rare but powerful reminder that the planet is always shifting—quietly, constantly, and sometimes dramatically.

Stay curious, Hudson!

📅 The Scoop To-Do List

🛍️ Your Weekend Reminder: Market & Music

Just a quick nudge so it doesn’t slip through the weekend cracks:

  • 🥕 Hudson Farmers’ Market is back Saturday from 9 AM to 12:30 PM on the Greens. Local produce, fresh bread, handmade goods—yes, it’s still peak season.
  • 🎶 Funkology on the First & Main Green hits the stage Saturday night from 7–9 PM. Expect high-energy funk, soul, and disco from one of the area’s favorite bands. (It’s free. It’s fun. And yes, it’s DORA-friendly.)
  • 🎶 Sunday Bandstand Concert kicks off at 6:30 PM with LaFlavour bringing some feel-good retro jams to the Gazebo Green. (If it rains, they’ll move to the Middle School.)

Bring a tote. Bring a chair. Bring your summer self.

🏈 Don’t Forget: Hall of Fame Weekend Is Here

We’ve mentioned it before, but it’s worth a final nudge—Hall of Fame Weekend is happening today through Sunday in Canton. Think parades, inductions, and a stadium concert to wrap it all up.

If you need a refresher on what’s happening and when, you can find all the details here.

Big weekend. Big legends. Go enjoy it.

🎸 Barenaked Ladies Take Over Blossom Tonight

Feeling nostalgic? Good—because the Last Summer on Earth Tour is rolling into Blossom tonight (Friday, August 1), and it’s bringing some serious 90s energy with it.

Barenaked Ladies, Sugar Ray, and Fastball are teaming up for a night of throwback anthems, singalongs, and lawn-chair dancing. Music starts at 7 PM, but you’ll want to get there early—parking, picnicking, and people-watching are half the fun.

It’s all happening at Blossom Music Center, just a short drive from Hudson and tucked into the trees of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Still need tickets? You’re in luck—you can grab them here.

Call it a mini getaway with a killer soundtrack.

🎨🐮 Paint, Sip, and Moo-ve into Relaxation — Tonight!

Looking for a legendary way to kick off August? Head to Pure Passions Farm in Kent tonight for an evening of peaceful painting, adorable animals, and laid-back farm vibes.

From 7–9 PM, local artist Kellie Fleming will guide you step-by-step in creating a sunflower mandala flower pot using the relaxing dot painting method. But here’s the best part — you’ll be surrounded by micro mini cows while you paint. Yes. Actual. Tiny. Cows. Just casually strolling by, bringing joy with every hoof.

Gates open at 6 PM if you want to come early, explore the farm, and hang out with all the animals. It’s BYOB, so grab your favorite drink and unwind with some art and ambiance in the barn or pavilion (weather decides!).

$35 per person covers all supplies and full farm access. This one’s part art class, part animal therapy, and completely delightful.

👉 Grab your tickets here — and prepare for a moooood you’ll wish you could bottle.

🎨 Lakewood Arts Festival This Saturday

Looking for a little weekend inspiration? The 48th Annual Lakewood Arts Festival is happening Saturday, August 2 from 10 AM to 6 PM, and it's one of the best artsy day trips you can take without straying too far from home.

More than 165 juried artists will take over Detroit Avenue in Lakewood (between Arthur and Belle), offering up everything from paintings and pottery to jewelry, photography, and creative pieces you didn’t even know you needed. Add in live music, food trucks, and artist demos, and you’ve got the perfect excuse to wander, browse, and snag something beautiful for your home—or your bookshelf, or your wall, or your friend who’s impossible to shop for.

The weather’s looking ideal, parking is free in nearby lots, and the vibe is super walkable. No stress, just a day full of good art, good snacks, and a whole lot of local talent.

Plan your visit and check out the entertainment lineup here.

🍽️ The Longest Table in Kent — This Sunday

Looking for something a little different (and a whole lot delightful) this weekend? The Longest Table Kent is happening Sunday, August 3 from 5–7 PM right on the West Main Street bridge, and it’s exactly what it sounds like—one massive, joyful dinner party stretching across the heart of downtown Kent.

This free community event brings together neighbors, friends, and complete strangers for one long table, 40 setups deep, with 260 chairs waiting to be filled. You bring the food, the vibes, and your favorite people. They’ll bring the tables, chairs, and a memory you won’t forget.

🪑 Want to host a table? You can snag a free table-for-six tickethere. Just make sure to invite 5 guests—or email [email protected] if you have open seats and want to be paired up with fellow tablemates.

Don’t need a whole table? No problem. Just email the organizers and they’ll connect you with someone who has a few extra chairs.

No pets allowed (except service animals), and no outside alcohol—but you can grab a DORA drink nearby and enjoy it at your seat. It’s community at its best, and there’s still room at the table.

🐾 Dog Days + Cold Drinks = A Tail-Wagging Good Time

Looking for a sign to adopt a dog? This might just be it.

Wild Eagle Steak & Saloon in Streetsboro is hosting a Dog Days of Summer Adoption Event on Sunday, August 3, and the vibes are off-leash.

  • 🐶 Meet adoptable dogs from the Portage County APL
  • 🍺 Sip something cold while you browse the cuteness
  • 🎯 Bring pet supplies (food, blankets, toys, treats, etc.) and score a $5 game card as a thank-you

It’s happening from 1–3 PM at 9470 State Route 14, Streetsboro, and it’s got all the essentials: good pups, good people, and good beer.

Already met Benji, our Scoop of the Litter from Cleveland APL? He’d totally approve of you making a new furry friend this weekend. Go say hi to some wagging tails—and maybe head home with your very own.

🚗 Cars, Canines, and a Whole Lot of Heart

We’ve got another event in this issue supporting rescue animals—and this one’s got chrome, engines, and wagging tails.

Cars for Canines is rolling into Akron this Sunday, August 3, benefiting One of A Kind Pet Rescue. It’s all happening at 1700 W Market St, and it’s a day of fast cars and furry friends—with a mission that’s even more powerful than a V8 engine.

  • 🏆 Awards announced at 3 PM
  • 🎟️ Raffles, games, food, music, and more
  • 🐾 Meet adoptable pets and support a pawsome cause
