âď¸ The Scoop on Hudson Weather
Hudsonâs in for a sun-soaked week with just one midweek detour into umbrella territory. Most days will be bright and warm enough to make you rethink that afternoon coffee run.
Temperatures flirt with 90° more than once, breezes stay light, and the weekend looks tailor-made for outdoor plansâunless Wednesdayâs showers change the script.
- âď¸ Today (Mon 8/11) â 89°/68°: Mostly sunny with a soft southern breeze. (Patios will be feeling popular.)
- âď¸ Tue 8/12 â 90°/69°: Mostly sunny again. (Might as well bookend the day with ice cream.)
- đŚď¸ Wed 8/13 â 83°/65°: Morning showers, then clearing. (Natureâs quick rinse cycle.)
- đ¤ď¸ Thu 8/14 â 82°/60°: Partly cloudy and cooler. (Windows open, coffee brewingâyes.)
- âď¸ Fri 8/15 â 87°/64°: Mostly sunny. (Friday nights and al fresco dinners just go together.)
- âď¸ Sat 8/16 â 90°/67°: Mostly sunny. (Perfect excuse to find waterâpool, lake, sprinkler.)
- đ¤ď¸ Sun 8/17 â 87°/65°: Partly cloudy with a warm breeze. (Yard game weather, competitive spirit optional.)
Sunscreen takes the MVP award this week, but keep an umbrella on standby for Wednesdayâs cameo.

đ° Fresh Off the Clocktower
đ Tonightâs Sky Show: The Perseids
If youâve ever spotted a quick streak of light overhead in August, thereâs a good chance it was a Perseid. This annual meteor shower happens when Earth passes through the dusty trail left by the SwiftâTuttle comet â tiny bits of comet debris burning up in our atmosphere at over 130,000 mph. Translation: free fireworks from space.
The Perseids peak late tonight into the early hours of tomorrow (Aug 12), and while the nearly full moon will wash out some of the dimmer meteors, you can still expect 10â20 bright streaks an hour if you play your cards right.
Best bets for Hudson viewing:
- Head somewhere dark â Hudson Springs Park or any wide-open spot away from streetlights.
- The prime window is 3â5 a.m., when the radiant is highest and the moon dips lower.
- Give your eyes 20â30 minutes to adjust and avoid looking at your phone (unless itâs to brag about the shooting star you just saw).
The Perseids are famous for long, glowing trails â the kind that make you forget your coffee is getting cold. Even with a bright moon, the biggest ones will still slice across the sky like cosmic highlighters. If youâre up late (or up early), this is one of those âworth itâ moments.
đĄ Medicineâs Next Big Leaps
Science is serving up some seriously exciting health news this weekâbreakthroughs that could change the way we treat everything from brain health to cancer to asthma.
- đ§ Rewriting the Alzheimerâs Story â A Harvard study found that tiny doses of lithium reversed Alzheimerâs symptoms in mice, even restoring brain function. Itâs a long road to human trials, but itâs a promising shift toward treatments that go beyond symptom control.
- đŤ Breathing Easier, Literally â A new British-designed inhaler called Quattrii gets at least 70% of medication where itâs supposed to goâthe lungsâinstead of the usual 10% with traditional inhalers. Clinical trials kick off next month.
- 𩻠Cancer Treatment, No Scalpel Required â The NHS in the UK has started using histotripsy, an ultrasound technique that destroys tumors without surgery, chemo, or radiation. Treatments take about 30 minutes and patients walk out the same day.
From sharper science to gentler care, these advances feel like a peek into a healthier, less invasive future. Hereâs hoping the road from lab to everyday life is a short one.
đď¸ Ohioâs Sales Tax Holiday Is in Full Swing
Heads up, savvy shoppersâOhioâs giving your wallet a break. Now through Wednesday, August 14, you can skip paying sales tax on most items priced under $500. And yes, it applies pretty much everywhereâbig-box stores, local shops, and even online orders shipped to Ohio.
Itâs the perfect excuse to tackle back-to-school shopping, stock up on household staples, or finally splurge on that new gadget youâve been eyeingâwithout the extra percentage at checkout.
The savings wrap up at 11:59 p.m. on Aug 14, so line up your shopping list and make the most of it while it lasts.
đ§ Did You Know?
When it comes to raptors, the peregrine falcon is in a league of its own.
These sleek, sharp-eyed hunters can clock over 200 mph in a hunting diveâmaking them the fastest animal on the planet.
With wings built for speed and precision, they strike mid-air with jaw-dropping accuracy, earning their place as one of the most formidable hunters in the skies.
If you ever spot one overhead, youâre looking at the Formula 1 of the bird world. đŞś
Stay curious, Hudson!
